Book mail from Scholastic! Thanks Scholastic!

So I'm pretty happy I got approved for Blood Heir! I also got The Dysasters as I'll be participating in the blog tour for it!

Ok guys, I really meant to post this week. I swear. It's just been one of those weeks. I've had a headache for 4 days now. It's like I think it's gone and its just dulled enough to where its not bothering me every few minutes. Ugh! Guys, I really hate headaches! They are so distracting! Hoping I can finally get rid of it this weekend. But I'm gonna try and work on getting stuff scheduled this weekend finally. :)

As mentioned, I went out with my friends last weekend. It was a lot of fun and I definitely needed it with everything that's been going on since December. We're working on making this a thing one night every weekend. But yeah. We went out and did some karaoke and just blasted music in the car and just had a lot of fun laughing and hanging out. It was fantastic.

Stacking The Shelves #132/Sunday Post #64

I went and bought myself the pretty B&N Edition of The Wicked King. It's seriously so beautiful! And I found a nice used copy of Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy. I plan on reading all the Shadowhunter books this year to get completely caught up, so I've been buying the short story bind ups to have them ready!

Obviously I'm slowly collecting all the Dirk Pitt novels. I happened across these this week and grabbed them! Still a lot more to go! LOL.

So yeah, it was another week of not posting. Sorry guys, I actually meant to this week, just been distracted. I've been applying for jobs, and I also took the postal exam so I can get into the post office. Cuz you know, they pay pretty decent. I also started a workout plan this week. I'm really trying to make 2019 the year I get back into shape, so I made a workout plan and I'm trying super hard to stick to it. I also reconnected with one of my best friends who I haven't talked to in a while, and made plans to hang out and catch up this weekend.

Ana also had her 4 year check up this week. She's doing pretty well. We got some good suggestions from her doctor for preschool. Poor girl also got 3 shots. She was so out of it after her appointment. I felt so bad. But she felt better after some sleep. She's also started potty training at night. So far so good. She's only had one accident so far.

So I'm sure a number of you are wondering about my depression. It's still there. But I'm dealing. Talking to friends has been helping. It's definitely not gone by a long shot, but I haven't spent every day crying this week, so I think that is some very good progress for me. I've also been watching some of my favorite shows, like Doctor Who and The Grand Tour, and that's cheered me up a bit. So it's been a bit of a better week for me. And I'm finally getting back into a book! Metro 2033! It's gonna be my first dystopian read of the year!

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Releases For The First Half of 2019

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Topic:
Most Anticipated Releases For The First Half of 2019

Ok, I had a hard time narrowing this down to 10. So I tried to narrow it down to mostly books I haven't talked much about yet minus the first one.

1. The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air #2) by Holly Black - I loved The Cruel Prince and have been dying for The Wicked King since. I seriously cannot wait to see how things are going to go down after the way The Cruel Prince ended.
2. Aurora Rising (The Aurora Cycle #1) by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff - Guys, you know I fell in love with the Illuminae Files last year. After those books, I will literally buy any book these two write together no questions asked.
3. Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte - This book just sounds amazing! We all know I love a great fantasy novel and this sounds like it'll be one.
4. Children of Virtue and Vengeance (Legacy of Orisha #2) by Tomi Adeyemi - I was so blown away by Children of Blood and Bone last year. I avoided it for months because of the excessive hype and highly regret it. I finished the book in 3 hours. I loved the story so much. You can bet I'm going to be super grabby hands for this as soon as it hits the shelves.
5. Nyxia Uprising (The Nyxia Triad #3) by Scott Reintgen - I've said it so much. Nyxia and Nyxia Unleashed haven't got nearly the amount of attention they deserve for how amazingly well written this sci-fi trilogy is! And if you read my review of Nyxia Unleashed, you know I'm dying for Uprising after that freaking ending. I need this book and I need it yesterday.

6. The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses #1) by Cassandra Clare & Wesley Chu - Uh, yeah, I'm pretty much trash for anything Cassie Clare. I have yet to finish any of the Shadowhunter series and I still am dying for every single one of the new ones that'll be coming out in 2019. And hello, Magnus and Alec?? Yes please!
7. A Question of Holmes (Charlotte Holmes #4) by Brittany Cavallaro - I read A Study in Charlotte on a whim based on only one suggestion and just fell in love with Charlotte and Jamie and their story. You can bet a hot dollar I'm gonna be all over this once it comes out. I need to know if these two are finally gonna get together.
8. King of Fools (The Shadow Game #2) by Amanda Foody - Despite Ace of Shades not being a 5 star read for me, so much about the world really intrigued me. So I'm really looking forward to seeing where this story line is heading.
9. Sherwood by Meagan Spooner - Uh, a Robin Hood retelling where Robin is dead and Marian takes up his sword (literally). HELL FREAKING YES! I need this.
10. We Hunt The Flame (We Hunt The Flame #1) by Hafsah Faizal - I think every single one of us in the blogging community is super hyped for this!

New Releases: Week of January 8, 2019

The Wicked King (Folk of the Air #2)
Author: Holly Black
Publisher: Little, Brown BYR
Publication Date: January 8, 2019

The enchanting and bloodthirsty sequel to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince.

You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.

The first lesson is to make yourself strong.

After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her younger brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.

When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

Slayer (Slayer #1)
Author: Kiersten White
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Publication Date: January 8, 2019

Into every generation a Slayer is born…

Nina and her twin sister, Artemis, are far from normal. It’s hard to be when you grow up at the Watcher’s Academy, which is a bit different from your average boarding school. Here teens are trained as guides for Slayers—girls gifted with supernatural strength to fight the forces of darkness. But while Nina’s mother is a prominent member of the Watcher’s Council, Nina has never embraced the violent Watcher lifestyle. Instead she follows her instincts to heal, carving out a place for herself as the school medic.

Until the day Nina’s life changes forever.

Thanks to Buffy, the famous (and infamous) Slayer that Nina’s father died protecting, Nina is not only the newest Chosen One—she’s the last Slayer, ever. Period.

As Nina hones her skills with her Watcher-in-training, Leo, there’s plenty to keep her occupied: a monster fighting ring, a demon who eats happiness, a shadowy figure that keeps popping up in Nina’s dreams…

But it’s not until bodies start turning up that Nina’s new powers will truly be tested—because someone she loves might be next.

One thing is clear: Being Chosen is easy. Making choices is hard.

In An Absent Dream (Wayward Children #4)
Author: Seanan McGuire
Publisher: Tor.com
Publication Date: January 8, 2019

This is the story of a very serious young girl who would rather study and dream than become a respectable housewife and live up to the expectations of the world around her. As well she should.

When she finds a doorway to a world founded on logic and reason, riddles and lies, she thinks she's found her paradise. Alas, everything costs at the goblin market, and when her time there is drawing to a close, she makes the kind of bargain that never plays out well.

For anyone . . .

Stacking The Shelves #131/Sunday Post #63

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality as a way to share all the books we got during the week!

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer. Its a weekly post to showcase what books you got, recap the week, and talk about what will be coming up this week on the blog!

It has the art of the characters on the inside of the dust jacket. It's incredibly beautiful.

Obviously I got some more Clive Cussler books for Christmas. I'm currently in the middle of Vixen 03. I really like the stories behind the Dirk Pitt novels.

So I got this actually 2 weeks ago from Scholastic, but since I didn't post at all the last 2 weeks, I'm including it now.

So I'm excited about this. If you guys didn't know, Kristen Simmons is one of my absolute favorite authors. So I'm super excited to have an advanced copy of her newest book!

So as you guys have noticed, I've been pretty absent up until this week. I told you guys I've been struggling with my depression. It's not going away guys. It's not going to go away for a while. I don't really want to talk about what's going on in my life with everyone at the moment, but I just feel incredibly broken and hurt and I'm struggling so hard right now. This is honestly worse than the depression I was in that made me start this blog in the first place. I just can't stop crying. I'm not happy. It's a challenge to even convince myself to get out of bed anymore. I'm in an incredibly dark place right now. The reason I finally started posting again this week is because I'm trying really hard to distract myself.

Christmas was ok. Ana got some neat gifts, including a kindle kids edition tablet. She's been very excited about that and she's got some great learning apps on it. I obviously got some books. I'm as excited as I can be right now about that. Also got a number of gift cards. One I'm gonna use this upcoming week to buy The Wicked King.

Review: Raise The Titanic by Clive Cussler

Raise The Titanic! (Dirk Pitt #4)
Author: Clive Cussler
Publisher: Putnam
Publication Date: 1976
Pages: 435
Format: Paperback/Own

The President's secret task force has developed an unprecedented defensive weapon that relies on an extremely rare radioactive element--and Dirk Pitt has followed a twisted trail to a secret cache of the substance. Now, racing against brutal storms, Soviet spies, and a ticking clock, Pitt begins his most thrilling mission--to raise from its watery grave the shipwreck of the century...

Review: Wow! I honestly enjoyed this a lot more than I originally thought I was! I haven't been the biggest reader of anything adult and kinda shied away from this since it's one of James absolute favorite books, but I'm so glad I finally decided to pick it up and read it! I have a huge interest now in reading more of the Dirk Pitt novels after reading this.

So the thing that really interested me most about this was the Titanic! I have a huge interest in underwater wrecks, whether ships, planes, subs, etc. The Titanic has always been one of my top underwater wrecks of interest. Like it's said multiple times throughout the book, there's just something about the Titanic. It's captivating. She is one of the most famous shipwrecks to date, despite having sunk in 1912. There will always be this incredible fascination with her. I loved how we got to read about the idea of her being raised, even though realistically, that can never happen. Though I have to admit, the entire time I was reading this, I was picturing them raising one piece of her since we know she's in two pieces on the sea floor. In the book though, they are raising her as if she sunk completely intact. This book was written in 1976, well before Titanic's wreckage was actually discovered in 1985. So many people thought she sunk intact and there is the basis for raising her in the book. But despite the book having been wrote in 1976, a number of things were incredibly close to on point with its discovery. In 1985 a fair portion of it was still relatively intact, not completely being eaten and coming apart at the seems like it is now. The depth was also incredibly close. In the book they found her at 12,340 ft and her actual depth is about 12,500 ft. That's less than 200 ft difference. The fact a number of things were so close to how she was found before she was actually found was so interesting to me. Clearly Clive Cussler did his research with what was know of Titanic at the time and didn't just write it willy nilly.

I did enjoy some of the realistic elements of this book. First and foremost being the outrageous amount of money needed to try and raise a ship from those depths. I mean, even raising a wreck in shallow water can be pricey, so it was very realistic to put a huge price-tag on raising the Titanic. I also liked the fact we get to see just how much equipment would realistically go into a salvage operation like this. There were a lot of ships, deep sea subs, and a lot of specialized equipment brought in for this. We also get to see some interesting secret groups within the government, which I have no doubt, there probably are groups we don't know abut running projects in secret. But we also get to see the realities of running secret operations like this. The President having to deal with how to handle leaks about the projects, having to keep the reigns on congress from investigating where money is going for these secret groups, worrying that if something goes wrong with the projects, he could lose his presidency over it. Man, so much going on.

Anyways, I loved the whole backstory for raising the Titanic in the first place. One of these secret groups in the government is trying to build a weapons defense system that needs a rare element, Byzanium, to work properly. Unfortunately, that element was only traced to a mine in Soviet territory. Despite finding the mine, they find out all the Byzanium was lost somewhere between said mine and trying to get it to the US. And once the digging is complete, they firmly believe the last known place the Byzanium was known to be was on the Titanic, which obviously sank. Hence the operation to raise the Titanic. Oh man, this was just such a good story. All the lies and cover-ups related to the miners who were the ones that mined the Byzanium in secret. The story involving the Soviets and how they thought they were catching on to the US's big secrets, when that was just a whole plot in itself. All the sabotage going on with the salvage operation. This was just such a fantastic story. This really had all the interesting pieces of a thriller and wove them together brilliantly.

Ok, despite Dirk Pitt being a bit of a womanizer, I overall enjoyed his character. He's incredibly knowledgeable in his field, hence his place in NUMA. He's also pretty smart. He's very good at piecing puzzles together and can often figure out after some time thinking on it, the hidden meanings or the missing pieces that can make or break something. He's the type of guy you want solving mysteries surrounding things, but he's also the type of leader you want for operations like raising the Titanic. He's quick thinking in an emergency, he jumps at the idea to do the impossible and prove everyone wrong. He's a very determined guy. I also love his go to guy Al Giordino! They have such a good, fun dialogue with each other and you can tell they've been friends for a while. You see it especially when they discover the wreck of the Titanic and Al jokes with Dirk about only being off by 2 minutes with his bet on what time they'd find her. And he's a pretty smart guy as well. I mean, he pretty much leads things when Dirk isn't around, so you gotta be pretty good at your job to be the second.

January 2019 TBR

So I'm still having a hard time with my mental health guys. There's issues going on in my personal life that quite honestly, I don't want to discuss with everyone on the blog. If you guys are truly concerned or want to reach out to talk to me, you're more than welcome to DM me on Twitter. But otherwise, I'm gonna try and have a better reading month in January to keep me distracted.

So Vixen 03 and Archenemies are books carried over from 2018. I'm about halfway through both so I'm wanting to finish them first of all this month! Then, DUH, of course I want to read The Wicked King. That's a given. And Last of Her Name is one of my ARCs I want to get done.

All of these are NetGalley books for the first 3 months of the year so far. So I'd like to get these all read and reviewed for their releases so I'll be all caught up on 2019 NetGalley books.
